We are most fortunate to have a very supportive parent body at Brightwalton. Our parents are intersted in what we do and actively seek to support both the school itself and also their children's learnning. Attendance at Parents' Evening was 98% in March 2016 and 100%  in October 2015.

Parents are involved directly in the school through volunteering to support swimming or other outside trips and organising the library. They also have opportunities to join in with the school day by spending a session in Ash Class or to joining their child for lunch. The Friends of Brightwalton offer parents the chance to work together to fundraise for the school and provide fun events for the children, parents and whole school community.

Below you will find useful information for parents, including presentations from recent training sessions.

Leave of Absence in Term Time

By law, children must attend school reularly and punctually and we would expect all our children to be in school all day unless they are too ill to attend. There are 13 weeks of school holidays, when routine medical appointments, days out and holidays can take place. In extremely exceptional family circumstances, the Headteacher is legally able to authorise an annual family holiday during term time but this is at his/her discretion, not a right, and factors such as school attendance, including sickness absence, will be taken into consideration. An appointment should be made with the Heateacher to discuss any planned absence at least one month prior to the date of departure and before tickets are booked. You may find the West Berkshire leaflet below useful.

Scheduled temporary visits during the school day

If it is unavoidable for a child to have a routine appointment eg to the dentist, doctor, hospital, new school visit or music exam during the school day, the parent must put this in writing, a month in advance giving the date and time of the appointment. When collecting a child from the school office the parent should sign the child out and then back in again on their return. Please do not drop your child at the gate.
